Garrison Flag

An unnamed Cadet photographer caught a beautiful take of the Garrison Flag being lowered.  It heads one of the VMI Facebook pages and so caught my eye When I saw it I felt compelled to 'take a run at and paint it.'

If you were ever on Guard and had to wrestle one of these beasts down in high wind you'll know the feeling of being slapped around by that 20x40 behemoth!  I personally witnessed someone caught up in the Virginia Garrison Flag and watched as he was lifted and thrown a fair piece by that tremendous force.  (And I think he got boned for dirty Ducks too!)

That said, these beautiful big Flags stir all of our hearts and its hard to feel anything but pride when they grace Post.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did remembering and painting it.
